novel scheme, introduced by founder chairman late Shri. V.M.Salgaocar, provided trucks to local villagers with nominal initial deposit under hire purchase scheme. The scheme has increased their participation and brought new dynamics to mining industry since the seventies. Others have followed suit changing for better the road transport sector in Goan iron ore mining. It has also boosted direct and indirect employment potential.

Salgaocar were also the first to use the network of rivers for navigating between the mining areas and the port operating barges imported from Germany to their commercial advantage. Salgaocars are equipped today to load and transport 24,000 tons of ore daily from their own jetties to the port.

Mining industry has no doubt benefited from these innovations. Local population has also benefited with enhanced standard of living that comes with entrepreneurship and socio-economic development.
